TV's "The Nanny" Fran Drescher Partners with Paul Mitchell Schoolsby Paul Mitchell Schools on 12/23/2008
For the sixth straight year, Paul Mitchell Beauty Schools across the country will spend the months of February, March, and April raising money for several charitable organizations. This year’s list of recipients includes the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation, City of Hope, Food 4 Africa, and two newcomers: the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and Cancer Schmancer Movement.
Cancer Schmancer, founded by comedian Fran Drescher, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all women’s cancers be diagnosed while in stage 1, when they are most curable.
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients, and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. The schools are supporting them this year in honor of Paul Mitchell, who died of pancreatic cancer 20 years ago.
The highlight of this annual fundraising effort will be the Magic of Memories dinner, held Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California. The dinner will be hosted by radio and TV personalities Leeza Gibbons and Fran Drescher, plus two special guests: CNN’s Larry King and John Paul Mitchell Systems CEO John Paul DeJoria. The evening will celebrate all of the participating schools while also raising additional money with a live auction and opportunity drawing.
In 2008, the schools raised over $930,000, bringing their five-year grand total to $2.5 million. For 2009, they plan to raise an additional $1.2 million.
